"Spring Hill"

This is a recent landscape done using dry pastel over a watercolor underpainting. Unlocking nature's infinite color list is a never ending challenge as well as motivation to move forward. Enjoying a dialogue with the surroundings and subjects is one of my greatest pleasures even when frustrations arise. Thanks for looking. Spring Hill is approx.9x12 dry pastel on sanded paper.

"Lady In Red"

This is a recent pastel painting I did. My loving wife posed for me and there was a warm rich light that filled in the shadows. I became more interested in the light and let it take the lead throughout. This painting is very soft and blended which I normally avoid, but it suited the situation and made the details for me less important. The painting is approx. 9x12 soft pastel on La Carte sanded pastel card.

Quick life drawings

These are three drawings from life each purposely done in under an hour. They are not meant as finished drawings but more of an excersize. There is little detail. I did these to get my juices flowing and to more quickly identify shapes. These are approx.16x20 black and white pastel on toned paper.

Ulster Evening

This is a small painting inspired by a day trip to New Paltz N.Y. a small college town with an active arts community. There seems to be many little hidden vistas offering painting and photo opportunities. My wife and I will be returning soon to uncover more of it's treasures. The town is in Ulster County and is a friendly place to relax and browse the small unique shops. Ulster Evening is 6x8 oil on linen panel and was painted using a pallette of red, blue and yellow plus white.
